Domo Restaurant in Denver, is easily one of the best places we ate while we were there!
We had such good luck with Yelp on this trip, Domo being one of the products of their service! To start off, I love Japanese food. Though since I am a vegetarian, some Japanese restaurants can be difficult to visit because I can’t understand the menu. This place was very easy for more and still remained authentic. The decor is amazing and if you go at a time when it is warmer, I recommend walking through the garden and museum.
We both ordered a variation of the udon soup. And I have one warning - do not fill up on all the little goodies they bring you before you get your main dish because the main dish is enough for at least two or three meals! Also unless you’re intent on tasting as much of their delicious food as possible AND having plenty of leftovers, I suggest forgoing the appetizers.
The picture above is part of their museum. And if you want to check out some photos of their fantastic gardens, click here.
Sorry, I don’t have a snazzy photo for this one :)
One of our main reasons for heading to Colorado was to visit some fine breweries. When I saw the ad for Redstone Meadery, which describes their products as “honey wine,” I was intrigued! I love beer and wine (and honey), so I definitely wanted to try something that seemed to combine the them.
The only problem we had with this place was finding it. Its location is a little confusing, as it looks like it is in a distribution warehouse. Once we found it, we had an enjoyable (maybe a little too enjoyable) time.
The mead was good - they had a variety of types for those who enjoy sweeter, lighter drink or something a little heavier and bitter. I wouldn’t consider mead something I’d drink regularly - but when it is time to bring out something a little different and special, I’d love to reach for a glass!
Boulder Beer - Colorado’s First Microbrewery
We stumbled upon this brewery after blindly searching our phones for a highly rated brewery close to our location in Boulder. What a find!
We arrived at Boulder Beer just in time to grab a walking beer for the tour. They guided us through the beer-making facility and process, which was lively and interesting thanks to the staff. But the best part of the tour came at the very end when they sat the whole tour group down in a side room and set us loose with pitchers of their beer. The atmosphere quickly turned into a friendly and boisterous one, as everyone taste tasted the various brews.
I’m sure we would have had a great time if we had missed the tour (and the free beer), so I recommend this place regardless of whether you make it for the tour or miss it.
Red Rocks Amphitheatre
This place was delicious! The food was simple but there were plenty of options. The beer list was varied and plentiful. The restaurant atmosphere was quaint and delightful. The waiters/waitresses are helpful and pleasant.
We tried the Blackberry Wheat Colorado, XXX Pale and Quinn’s Golden Ale. Like many places in Colorado, this place makes their own beer - you have to try it!
Highly recommended.
(Horrible picture, I know)
The Paramount Cafe is also at the 16th Street Mall. It boasts that it is “Denver’s Original Rock n’ Roll Cafe”. We didn’t try the food (though it looks like it could be delicious greasy diner food perfect for that late night, post alcohol consumption treat), we did have a few drinks off their massive beer menu. I tried the Big Nose Wheat, 90 Shilling and Mothership Wit. I’m just getting into beer so I’ll save you from my amateur reviews on that. I did like the restaurant and the fact that they have a cigarette vending machine on the way to the bathroom (illegal in Calif.). Though something tells me this place is better enjoyed on the weekend, later at night, with a lot of people.
The first restaurant we tried in Denver, Colo. was Katie Mullen’s, an Irish restaurant & pub. Katie Mullen’s is located beside the Sheraton Hotel on the 16th Street Mall. The atmosphere in this restaurant is great and though we didn’t stick around to see what it’s like as a bar, we really enjoyed the food and drinks we had. For dinner I tried the vegetable boxty, which is a traditional Irish recipie that features seasoned mashed and shredded potatos with delicious veggies. I also had their featured drink: the John Daily, an alcoholic take on the Arnold Palmer. Hilarious and yummy!
Glacier National Park, Montana
Lower Stillwater Lake, Montana. Much much easier to get to than the Upper lake…but not as breath-taking!
Upper Stillwater Lake in Montana. Fantastic, but I don’t suggest getting there via Nissan Sentra…
